The Wachau is a river valley in Lower Austria with a picturesque landscape formed by the Danube. It is one of the most prominent tourist destinations, located midway between the towns of Melk and Krems. It is about 40 kilometres in length and was already settled in prehistoric times. Wachau is a well-known place and tourist attraction with the architectural elegance of its ancient monasteries, castles and ruins combined with the urban architecture of its towns and villages. The cultivation of vines as an important agricultural produce are the dominant features of the valley.
Wachau a Duna völgyének egy festői szakasza az alsó ausztriai Melk és Krems városa között, mintegy 40 km hosszon. A völgy prehisztorikus időktől kezdve lakott volt, tele történelmi relikviákkal: apátságok, kastélyok, vár romok, középkori és mai városkák soraival. A völgy híres a szőlőműveléséről, az itt termelt kiváló borok a turizmus mellett a völgy lakói megélhetésének egyik meghatározó forrása.
